Spiritual Formation (SF) Groups are small fellowships that exist for mutual support, encouragement, and accountability as we participate in our transformation into Christ likeness according to Romans 8:29.

Drawing from His format, Jesus began His earthly ministry by establishing a small group of twelve disciples to pour His life into them, teaching them and sending them out to minister to others. This format has spanned the centuries to include the Early Church, the Benedictines in the 4th Century, the Methodism in the 17th Century and even Alcoholics Anonymous in the 20th Century. Participants in these gatherings ask one another in various forms the question, "How is it with your soul?" And this is how members of these groups help one another in their life for Christ.

In these SF Groups, healthy relationships are built, spiritual growth is experienced and believers are held accountable and encouraged in an environment where more can be accomplished with others than can be accomplished alone. We believe SF Groups to be essential for growth and development as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

It is the desire of our pastors and leadership to provide each interested individual or couple with a fulfilling small group experience with others who share common interests and goals. If you are interested in joining a Spiritual Formation Group, please complete the form (left hand column) and return it to the church during any one of our services or simply mail it in.

Pastor Joe on Small Groups at Crossroads:

“One of the major paradigm shifts that took place in Crossroads over the past 3 years was the introduction of Spiritual Formation Groups, also known as cell groups. We heard about its success on the West Coast and throughout Latin America but were convinced that this could never happen in NYC. We rejected the idea, claiming it to be another evangelical fad to sweep across America until we realized that we were losing beautiful people at Crossroads because the church was "too big."

We tried to address that through Men's and Women's Fellowship but even those gatherings were too large. It’s no coincidence that Jesus chose twelve to be with him. This number, combined with other biblical images, led us to the realization that SF Groups is in no way a new concept but rather one that has been around since the beginning of time.

Spiritual Formation Groups have changed the face of Crossroads and made this large church feel small and intimate. The powerful things that are happening to people by the Spirit, in the context of "cells," is too extensive to list here. You have to experience it for yourself.”
